Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool (made up of several tiny needles) is used to add permanent pigment to the skin, creating hair-like strokes. Other techniques are used for certain cases. Contact your artist to help you choose the desired style.

Is it permanent?

Yes, it is considered permanent since pigment is applied to the dermal(upper) layer of the skin. Unlike a regular tattoo, which is applied deeper into to skin, the pigment will gradually fade over time.

Does it hurt?

Clients will experience discomfort varying on each individuals pain threshold. Topical numbing cream is applied initially for 20 min and throughout the procedure to ensure the most comfortable experience.

Is it safe? (What if i'm pregnant/breastfeeding)

Yes, it is completely safe with things to consider:

  • Ensure you research and commit to an artist who is licensed and insured and has undergone proper training and certification for the services they offer. Beauty and Ink LLC meets all requirements.

  • Ensure the salon/ artist adheres to all of OSHA and CDC guidelines for the safety of the public. Please note, Beauty and Ink LLC may provide additional policies.

  • You must be 18 years of age to proceed with permanent makeup services or training. A parent or guardian may be present to proceed with makeup, tooth gem, or brow lamination services.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding we DO NOT recommend any permanent makeup procedure done

  • Diabetic patients (type 1) are not eligible to proceed due to possible risks and complications. Any other major health concerns should be discussed with your artist.

How long does the PMU process take?

The initial procedure will take approx 2.5-3.5 hours depending on the technique chosen. A brief medical history form will be required to fill out as well as an authorization. The pre draw process takes quite some time to ensure you are completely satisfied with the desired thickness, arch and shape. You may bring headphones to help you relax during the process.

What's a touch up and do I need one?

We are unable to guarantee pigment retention as everyone's skin heals differently. A touch up appt is highly recommended in 4-8 weeks to retouch any area that did not hold pigment, add more detail and/or shading, adjust color/shape as needed, etc. Results typically last 1-3 yrs and will eventually fade...If you are looking to maintain your results you may send a picture to your artist to schedule an "Annual Refresher" and we will completely touch up the brows to last another year or so.

What if my eyebrows were tattooed/microbladed previously?

Pictures will be requested to view your previously microbladed or tattooed brows. If they contain any pigment or undertone too dark to cover, a saline brow removal or laser removal service would be highly suggested first.
